Application of soft measure to protect river bank form erosion in Mekong delta (5/2014)
In framework of the scientific study of Tiengiang province named “ application of sand mattress solution for river bank protection in Tiengiang” a combined model of sand mattress and geo-eco-sand bag has been studied and build at the serious eroded section of Nguyen Van Tiep B canal. This pilot project is located at My Loi A commune, Caibe district, Tiengiang province on April, 2014.
A model has been developed by the Mekong Water Technology Innovation Institute in combination of sand mattress (T.C. Van, 2002) for river bed protection and Sand bag measure for dyke reinforcement.Result of the study shows feasibility of the solution: low cost, ease construction, durability and natural friendly. This solution can be applied for river bank protection in Tiengiang province as well as other locations in the Mekong delta with similar conditions.
